The Mysteries of

Yellowstone National Park

In addition to hot springs, geysers, mudpots, and fumeroles, Yellowstone National Park is home to many hidden mysteries.  Explore the history, geology and ecology of the park’s fantastic geothermal features while answering questions such as . . .

  • Could this amazing park become one of the world’s most dangerous natural disasters?

  • Why is Lake Yellowstone tilting?

  • Will Yellowstone help us discover life on Mars?

  • Was Yellowstone created from an extraterrestrial object?

  • What did Native Americans and early explorers think of this unusual area?

Across the Great Divide

Session I:  Butte to Yellowstone National Park

Session II:  Butte to Glacier National Park

What is 8,000 miles long, runs from Alaska to the Panama Canal, and sends North America’s rivers to three different oceans?

Stumped?  Come along with us to explore the backbone of the continent, the Continental Divide

Experience spectacular backcountry travel along the crest of the Rockies, the Continental Divide.  History comes alive as you cross paths with early explorers and settlers. Long celebrated in literature and song, the Great Divide is now accessible to hikers via the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail, stretching 3,100 miles through five states from Canada to Mexico.

  • Discuss the geology and ecology of Montana's high country, while hiking and camping on the Continental Divide.

  • Learn the basics of wilderness navigation with map, compass, and GPS.

  • Raft the headwaters of the majestic Missouri (flowing east to the Atlantic) and  the scenic Blackfoot (flowing into the Columbia River drainage and west to the Pacific).

  • Make your mark in history by building a section of the Continental Divide Trail.

  • Learn about watershed ecologies while camping and hiking in pristine alpine environments.
